To Dog or not to Dog… that is the question.

February 26, 2008

At the moment we have yet another unwanted pooch, this one has come from yet another friend who just wanted ‘the dog’ gone. So, being the kind generous people we are, we thought we should bring it home and give it a test run. It has not worked.

This pup came from a house occupied by three adults and two other raving mad, barking dogs. While this dog we speak of was living at the home, she barked constantly, only stopping to breath and eat. So we were a little apprehensive to begin with anyway.

She spent the first night and the entire first day in silence, hmmmm, we thought maybe she was missing her ex-housemates, maybe she just barked a lot because the other two barked all the time. So on day three when we fed her she growled at us, as a group and individually and then bit child three as he was making an ’exit’ into the house. hmmmm we thought, maybe she is just needing to get use to us, maybe she just wants to get inside the house. (I forbid any dogs being ‘inside’ my house. So, later during the day I thought I would play with the dog, hmmmm she thought, someone to bite. And she bit me.

So, anyway to cut a long story short, she will be picked up by the local council tomorrow morning. The owner doesn’t want her back, we don’t want her here.

Story over.

Oops, I did it again….

So I don’t leave you all wondering what exactly I have done, I have twisted my back, again, so my lower back is killing me. You just can not explain the pain of it, it is bloody painful to stand, sit, walk or anything really, a stretch every now and then helps a bit or at least creates a painful ‘bite’ to make the constant pain a little more bearable. At Tafe I guess everyone needs to walk about two kilometres a day just wondering around the campus getting to where you need to be, tomorrow I will be asking to be released from the morning class 10 minutes earlier so I can make it to the next class on time, or maybe so I can collect a cuppa when there is less traffic.

P S…….. I have now collected train ticket for upcoming holiday, One month to go.. and counting. I am extremely excited to be going, pity I don’t need to lodge my ‘dole form’ while I am away, I was slightly looking forward to that argument. I had better check again just to be sure. Oh, just realised that I do need to do that, hmmm. Great.

OMG, what can we do today……

Went for an hour long walk with child three, washed the dishes, washed some towels and will watch Underbelly tonight…that is it for today.

One week down…

February 16, 2008

First week of Tafe over with, many different people, many different opinions, even two fellows in the class, quite a few part time students, it has been a good week. Looks like the work load will be quite high too, but if you get on to it without wasting time then ya should get it all done.

Child one started this week too, met a few people and fitted in just fine, hopefully she wont let the work get ahead of her, cant just attend classes and expect to get a pass.

It was nice to catch up with some of the staff who are still there, some of whom will retire at the end of this year.

Child two enjoying work, looking at increasing hours but the hours are just not available at the moment. Anyway, he prefers work than going to school and he is a good addition to the workplace. I think he likes the opportunity to work and earn his money, he is increasing his model car collection each week.

Child three is doing well at school with lots of story writing and spelling going on. I am helping out with the swimming this term as it is on a Monday, I think there are 2 lessons left to go. He has a great ‘old fashion’ male teacher who will be substituted next term as he is taking long service leave. Darn.

I steam mopped the house this morning, wow, then let the cat out who left footprints everywhere. Speaking of the cat, he ate the tops of my capsicum plants this morning, not satisfied with that he then ate the large capsicum I was drying out for the next lot of seeds. So child three and I hastily made a hot house to save the remaining plants. despite the cats efforts the four goldfish are still alive, which is a bit of a shock considering the lack of human attention they receive.

For those who watched the first episode of Underbelly, don’t tell me about it, I am getting a copy of it this weekend. Looks like heaps of great Aussie actors in it, some of them are my favorites.

Good News Week started again, which was fantastic. Sadly we lost power about 20 minutes into the show so I didn’t get to see it all. If anyone has a copy of that I would love to see it.

Sad news this week, some people I know here in ‘blogland’ will know of a friend of mine who has a daughter with scoliosis, who went through the pain of surgery and recovery (Harrington rod things along the spine) some time ago, well, unfortunately her next daughter had been diagnosed with the same condition about six months ago and was having regular checks in the hospital. This week they informed the child and her mother that she will indeed require surgery (in about 4 months) and prior to that she will be wearing a brace. Bit of a shock as neither of them were expecting this to happen. the doctor must have assumed that they knew this to eventuate but neglected to inform the family. So again, this family will be experiencing the stress and ‘hopeless’ feelings that coincide with the upcoming surgery. They have seen it already, they know about the tough surgery, they know about the painful recovery and they know about the sadness in their childrens eyes as the encourage movement and engaging in social activity. It is a tough time. With this medical attention and a good support system they will triumph once again.

Such is life.

Still eagerly awaiting ‘ebay’ dvd ordered a week ago.

Hail to the Ombudsmans office…..

February 12, 2008

Today I had some fun with the Housing Appeal process. Long story, I’ll cut it short for you. Small win for the little people, Housing Dept refused to re assess rent payable as they had not received ‘Employment separation Certificate’ so since finishing work the household rent has been equivalent to income ‘earnt’ on Newstart payments (difference of about $8). We (the household) re assessed our own income and were paying that amount to Housing (eg $90 per week) even though the rent payable had been almost $200 per week. I had provided Housing with a CentreFink income statement proving my income to them on or about 18th Dec 2007, after several ‘notice to remedy’ and finally a ‘notice to leave’ were issued and after communication with the GOV Ombudsman’s office and the Housing Appeal board,  they have now squashed all action, re-assessed rent payable and now we are a happy household once again. About bloody time too.

Yay Advocacy………..
