Anyone for a muffin….?

April 19, 2008

Someone very nicely gave us six dozen ‘reject’ eggs from where he works, successfully managed to palm off quite a few of them thankfully and are now left with way too many, combined with the dozen we had bought this week anyway that makes us the proud owners of about four dozen eggs. These eggs are all very large, hence the ‘reject’ tag as they have been graded as way too big to fit in any of the criteria they seek, and they are all double yolkers. YAY.

I have been making muffins now for three days and i am now running out of ideas. So far I have made two batches of egg and bacon mini quiche thingies, egg and tomato pies, and the flavours of muffins made are : chocolate x 2, pumpkin and cheese, cheese and garlic, tandori and chilli (yum), pear and raspberry and apricot and almond, and one chocolate cake.  I know that doesn’t sound like a lot of flavours, but I have run out of new ideas. So offer some suggestions…… please.

Brother Scoop, SIL…K and the kiddies called in this morning for a quick cuppa (and muffins) and the exchange of the yearly birthday gifts, as you know I ended up getting him a book … again, but a good book. They had got for me a much needed pillow and a new fishing rod (also much needed) And I love them, thanks very much. I had a good look at Scoop while he was here, he doesn’t really look that different than last time I saw him, but I guess he is a year older. As we all are.

Big Happy Birthday to Scoop.

Shopping for my brother ….. and other stresses

April 18, 2008

I’ve looked at hair dyes, crappy ties, long glasses and suitcases,

beer packs, fancy boxes, knee-highs and CD classics.

train sets, comic books, reading lights and fluffy slippers,

birthday cards, play-doh, yummy chocs and swimming flippers.

Car stickers, balls  of glass,

Had a cuppa, sat on my arse.

Ummed and Ahhhh-ed at all the stuff

stores have on offer to take your cash

lamps and pets,

paints, pens and printers,

jocks and games and sets for winters.

Boys gifts, mens gifts, fun gifts and stupid gifts.

Fear not my brother for I have done my shopping,

with great thought and precision,

got you something to help with your vision,

That’s right, I got you a book.

After four hours of seeking, I got the shits with it all and was heading out the door, when I spotted the store I should have entered in the first place. I went out with the plan of not getting him a book, so naturally, I ended up getting him just that.

Sigh

Happy Birthday to me…….etc etc

April 14, 2008

Yay, today is my Birthday… hmmmmm finally 37, not that it means a great deal, just another year older, a few brain cells dumber maybe. Nice relaxing day I hope, off to the hospital with a friend then we plan to go fishing, just what I wanted to do..

The best thing about going on a holiday is …. ?

Sunlander

We got onto the train…

And went far far away…

Found an inviting little garden path…………… eventually.

Where we found this bloke…

In a house … well, in his house.

Now this little house is actually not very little, it’s huge inside and has many many many walls that required painting, and this little house had many many walls on the outside that needed painting also.

On the inside of this house lots and lots of painting was done, from peach to green and from ‘latte’ to white then green. On the outside of this little house, I managed to turn most of the ‘rusty red’ colour to ‘cottage green’. This task was heaps of fun and I would do it again …. in about 50 years.

While we were staying there we noticed heaps of traffic of the ‘road-train’ variety. These darn things run 24/7 and we really noticed when there was a break in the traffic (as it is quite an odd silence).

We enjoyed ourselves every single day, we painted, built, swore, measured, tacked, broke, mowed, ate, slept, hammered, fished (turtles mainly), swept and drank many beers all in the fine coating of sweat that can only be brewed up in the Northern Queensland humidity.

Got home on Sunday night, made dinner, drank coffee and went to bed. Ankles have now returned to normal size after horrific train ride. None of us want to travel on a train for at least six months, but I bet we will.

Oh, the best thing about going on a holiday is ……….. sharing the photos.

POST UPDATE  08 April 08

Some more photos of the trip…….

We met some new friends…

J is so cool, oh, and Charlie is cool too I guess for a grasshopper hunting cat.

(sorry J but it is a great photo)

We saw some wierd things and went to some wierd places too.

A lino tree, a Townsville waterpark and a Joshua tree.

We went to the cinema…. sorry “the Worlde Theater” and together with two tourists and four locals we sat and watched Horton Hears A Who….. between all the giant grasshoppers which are naturally attracted to the light of the screen.
