Who invented weather stripping?

May 12, 2007

Title refers to the fact that I would like to punch him or her (although it couldn’t possibly have been a woman, could it now????) lights out, I would have thought that it was designed to keep the wet weather out…. but no, not on the bloody Kingswood, it seems to have not only allowed the rain to ‘get into’ most crevices in the vehicle but assisted the rain to stay trapped in said orifices. Q: Exactly how much rust can be in one damn car, sheeesh. A: Sadly, heaps.

So, I figured that I would start on all the door frames of the Kingswood today, I now look back and think well that was a big mistake, but it needs to be done. Undid all the screws holding (sorta) things like the sill plates, air vent (?) and weather strip from the surrounds of the rear driver side door, only to discover more rust. These areas (remembering that I have only looked at one door so far) will require some attention. Time, Time, Time. So, from now on I am going to assume that all areas are now totally rusty and be pleasantly surprised when I actually find any metal.

The kids gave me an early Mother’s Day gift of a mobile phone, Yay, so I guess I have now returned to the ‘real world’, and as Brother Scoop put it, “Now the world can reach you again”. Yes, this is true, but I was totally contactable prior to today via Morse Code or pigeon. P.S. Please send pigeon to collect my new number.

Note to SIL…K, I mopped the floor. Reluctantly.

Floor Pan ahoy……

April 17, 2007

Finally, at long last, the floor pan is ready, but only one of them, the drive side is ready to be collected. I will pick it up tomorrow. YAY. I will grab it now even though the other one is not there (passenger side) as these items seem to be very popular. Hmmm.

My arm has healed very well indeed and a little unhappy as even though it swelled up nicely, there is still no sign of bruising. Doctor gave me the week off, which is nice, as the arm does have a few movement issues, so now having a boring week. I do have a Tafe paper due on the 27th so I may even get that done, and heaps more sanding.

All kids had their first day back at Tafe and school, and were pretty happy to go, so the homework starts again now….ewwww.

Got printer cartridges filled up today, paid $48- to have three of them filled, saved about $30 by filling them instead of buying new ones. I guess thats worth it in the long run.

The kids have fitted back into their lazy after school routine, drop bags, turn on Xbox or TV and lounge around, afternoon teas etc etc. Leaves me with time to attack computer and blog unnecessarily.

Need to go round to Ex-friends home and throw one of her plates in the general direction of her house. No, I do not wish to talk to her. sigh.

Another Day, another 50% of a panel.

April 8, 2007

Not a panel, actually it’s the passenger side rear door, geez, Ican not believe this took the most of the day to finish, and it aint even really finished. The panel and this door is equal to one full can of primer. Unreal.

In other daily news, ummmmm nothing much happening here, was lucky enough to catch up with uncle I dont think I have seen in years and years. That was nice, great to confirm he still has a great sense of humor. That was yesterday, had a really good day.

Easter Sunday got off to a great start… at 12.50am, child three was quickly sent back to bed, with the easter eggs he found, only to get up again at 5am, I figured that was good enough, so we got up and ate hot crossed buns and chocolate…mmmm

Child two has gone out for the night, an 18th Birthday party I think or that might be tomorrow night, not real sure. Oh well, back tomorrow or Tuesday.

Child two has just hung around the house these past few days, not too excited about going out and about, I dont usually do taxi service for lazy people……much. besides, we have too many Xbox games.

Child three is is usual self, full of energy first thing in the morning, slight grumpy session mid afternoon, then bounces back later on, then in bed by 7.30pm. Today he helped sand the car, one 10cm square section of a front panel, nice job too. But while managing to get the door done, we were also able to watch Cars, Monster House and Happy Feet, a full six hours of DVD’s, and still got the door sprayed. Damn we are good.

Aha, 2.6% done……

Yay, finally looks like I am making progress on the Kingswood. Undercoated that one little strip on the rear panel, the ridge came up a treat, pretty straight too if I may say so myself, see all that hand sanding paid off.

So, tomoorow being Easter Sunday, which means I have another day free to attack the car, I am set to do the drive side rear panel. Hopefully I can get that panel to the same stage, then start on the doors. I had better get a couple of cans of Primer, I just used about quarter of a can on that bit.

The reason I am now sitting at the computer blogging is that I need to allow some time for the paint fumes to settle. It’s a little overpowering in there at the second.

Will post more pics as I get them done.

Now excuse me I must go and remove primer from up my nose.

Happy Easter to all who read.

Tell me it ain’t so…..

April 6, 2007

It took me all day to get this rear panel ready for undercoat (and I would have sprayed it too but I couldn’t find the tape), yes, all bloody day, I feel it in my shoulders, I feel it in my back and I feel it in my legs. And that’s only one panel, it’s not even the whole panel, it’s just that lovely strip of blue and pink that you see in the pic, where the chrome strip once was.

I have about eight different grades of sandpaper, the last three hours sanding this section was done by hand (I knew there was a negative point about being a bloody perfectionist) which really gave the muscles a good workout.

Now I sit here with a beer (thanks to Scoop), a well deserved beer at that. If I am still awake after this, I will pour a second glass too.

I hear that it is Good Friday, not quite sure whats so good about the Friday I am having, bah…. wash feet….. huh… lets see him sand this Kingswood. Then I shall rejoice.
